Salak fruit

Also known as “snake fruit” as the leathery, tough but thin skin resembles snake skin. We didn’t think twice when we saw this unusual fruit on sale at one of the stalls. We had to try it. After buying a bunch we had to ask the seller how to eat it. She understood what we were asking and showed us.

People say that you either love it or hate it. We loved it! To peel it, you have to pinch off the tip and then the rest peels away easily. There are three parts inside. Two edible lobes and a pit. It’s sour, sweet and tangy. Crunchy and moist like apple or pear. However the taste is delicious and slightly weird.
